[Football] Week 9: GPAC Football Players of the Week

Football – Mon, Oct. 25, 2021

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2021-22 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week

Offense -Caleb Schweigart, Wide Receiver (Morningside University)
Morningside wide receiver Caleb Schweigart is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Schweigart, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, had a pair of critical receptions in final minute touchdown drive that led to 34-28 victory to keep Mustangs tied for conference lead. His first reception was a one-handed diving snare to take ball inside 10-yard-line and the second was touchdown catch in left corner of end zone with 43 seconds left. In all he had seven catches for 108 yards (15.4 yards/catch) and totaled 175 yards of all-purpose offense. The third-ranked Mustangs host Jamestown on October 30. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Defense – Peyton Mitchell, Defensive Back (Concordia University)

Concordia defensive back Peyton Mitchell is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Mitchell, a senior, from Waverly, Kansas, equaled a Concordia program single game record by plucking three interceptions as part of a 21-7 win over Midland. All three interceptions came with the Warriors possessing the ball at the Concordia 35 or closer. Mitchell also made four tackles and was credited with 43 return yards on his interceptions. As a team, the Bulldogs intercepted six passes while pushing their win streak to four. The Bulldogs have the week off before hosting Doane University on November 6. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Special Teams – Chase Carter, Kicker (Morningside University)
Chase Carter of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Carter, a junior from Knoxville, Iowa, played pivotal role in the Mustangs’ top 15 NAIA showdown win over Dordt. He became just the third player in program history to convert four field goals in a game and was also perfect in extra points. He has the national lead in made and attempted point-after tries. Carter also launched four of seven kickoffs into end zone for touchbacks. The third-ranked Mustangs host Jamestown on October 30. Kick off will be at 1 pm
