[MSFA] MSFA teams exit from NAIA Playoffs in Quarterfinals

No. 8 Concordia hung tough with unbeaten No. 4 Grand View, but a pair of fourth-quarter turnovers proved costly in a 31-16 loss in the quarterfinal round of the NAIA Football Championship Series.

The Cardinals (9-3) held a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, as a forced fumble and recovery from Andrew Forerster gave Concordia a short field, leading to a TD pass from Gavin Brooks to Donovan Johnson. After a TD for Grand View (14-0), Luis Gomez tied the game at 10-10 with a 28-yard field goal midway through the second quarter.

Both teams traded TDs again, with Brooks finding Seeger DeGayner for a 50-yard score late in the third quarter, making it a 17-16 advantage for the Vikings.

The home team would stretch the lead to eight on their next possession with a 75-yard TD drive, but Concordia would suffer two turnovers on their next two possessions, while Grand View found the end zone again for the 31-16 final score.

Brooks finished the day completing 23 of 46 passes for 262 yards and a pair of TDs, while Parker Graham and Luke Wilson each led the Cardinal receivers with 73 yards apiece. Conner Long led the Concordia defense with 10 tackles, and Treyon Freeman had the team’s lone sack on the day.
